On Friday 15th July almost 100 supporters attended St Anne’s Hospice to witness the official selection of the winning prize tickets of this year’s Grand Car Draw. Attendees were entertained by one of Newport’s up and coming singer song writers – Joe Kelly, who performed a number of songs for their entertainment.
Joe, who has had a long association with St Anne’s ever since his grandfather was cared for at the Hospice, has written and dedicated a song to the Hospice – ‘Give me strength’ which will be launched at the forthcoming
‘Rock on the Rooftop’ event at the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel in August.
Following luncheon and Joe’s performance, the landlord and landlady of the Queen Inn, Upper Cwmbran – Jayne & Gareth Edwards, presented a cheque to the Hospice for £5,000, which was the proceeds from this year’s Bike Ride and Fun Day held at the Inn on 18th June…a tremendous result given the appalling weather (see the following link).
The main part of the event saw this year’s Grand Draw sponsors – Christine and Robert Purnell, draw the five winning tickets. St Anne’s Fundraising Business Manager -Terry Woodsford, explained that at the same function last year Chris and Robert generously offered to sponsor this year’s Draw following the sad passing of long time benefactor – John Badland, he thanked them for their support and said that it had been a pleasure to work with them this year saying that he had always made the promise to double the amount of sponsorship and whilst for a long time the economic climate made this seem unattainable he was pleased to be able to report that the draw had raised over £22,500 this year.
Robert stated that it had been his and Chris’ pleasure to have supported the draw and surprised everyone by announcing that he and Chris would be delighted to sponsor the 2012 Draw…….Fantastic news indeed!!
Following the announcement Chris and Robert pulled the five lucky winning tickets for the Draw, which were:-
1st Prize The Car ticket 114101 S. Howells – Crickhowell
2nd Prize £ 500.00 ticket 090900 B. Madden – Rhiwderin

4th Prize £ 150.00 ticket 056786 K. James – Risca
5th Prize £ 100.00 ticket 015763 J. Garland – Newport
Terry gave thanks to all those who had contributed to the success of the Grand Draw and said that everyone had won a prize which was the fact that through their generosity the Hospice would continue to provide
